Registered Music Therapist, British Association of Music Therapy
Gwen is originally from the west coast of Wales, brought up in a welsh-speaking family and community. Musical opportunities were never difficult to find and since a young age, she has had a passion for performing as a soloist as well as a member of various choirs and production companies. In her later teenage years, she turned to classical vocal singing and has since had the opportunity to perform a variety of opera roles.
She moved from home for the first time to study her undergraduate degree in Music at Cardiff University. At the end of the three years, Gwen returned to west Wales to work as a teaching assistant in a primary school before returning to study MA Music Therapy at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London. During her training, she worked with nursery children on developmental needs and social skills; in a school for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder; and in an adult mental health centre. After completing her studies in the summer of 2018 she spent three months volunteering as a music therapist in Bethlehem, Palestine. She delivered music therapy to children and young adults with various disabilities and emotional needs as part of an outreach programme across Bethlehem.
In her spare time, Gwen stays active by taking long walks, attending exercise classes and going to the gym. She also loves cooking and socialising with friends. She is excited to start her new adventure in Auckland and to join the team at RMTC.
