Becky Massey

Becky, originally from England has now called Aotearoa home for the past 8 years.

She is currently training to be a Creative Arts Therapist, completing her Clinical Masters through Whitecliffe College.

Previous to this, she studied Fine Art at college, completed a BSc in Psychology at the University of Lincoln and gained Qualified Teacher Status at the University of Leicester. After graduating, Becky worked in Leicester as a teacher in specialist schools. She provided a safe and nurturing environment for students with PMLD, SLD, MLD, physical disabilities and complex medical conditions.  She was hugely passionate about creatively adapting the curriculum to meet the diverse needs of her students and was lovingly known as ‘Miss Messy’ by her classroom team.  She loved bringing stories to life through props, sound and drama, providing an interactive experience that supported students’ sensory needs and enabled their participation and communication.

Drawing on her experience in specialised education she has a deep understanding of individual needs and inclusive practice.  Motivated and compassionate, Becky is committed to facilitating safe and empowering person-centred environments that invite creativity, play, openness and curiosity. 

After volunteering for the past two years at the Hawke’s Bay regional centre working on creative projects and developing their garden space, Becky is now embarking on placement.  Passionate about the transformative and therapeutic power of the arts she is excited to work multimodally within the team integrating and weaving the visual-arts, movement and drama into music therapy.
