Olly Lowery

Registered Music Therapist

Olly’s association with the Raukatauri Music Therapy Centre began in 2012 when he volunteered here whilst studying towards his jazz guitar performance degree. This inspired him to move to Wellington to study music therapy, where he gained experience as music therapist for adolescents experiencing psychosis, older adults with a wide range of needs, and also as a support worker for people with intellectual disabilities. Upon returning to the Centre in 2015 for the clinical placement of his Master of Music Therapy degree, he completed research that focused on the use of goals in music therapy with young people who have autism spectrum disorder.

Olly joined the team at Raukatauri following his clinical placement and enjoys making music with people at the Grey Lynn Centre, in schools, and at the Orewa outreach Centre. He was recently published in the New Zealand Journal of Music Therapy, and is interested in exploring the use of music technology in music therapy. In 2019, Olly is excited to be leading the Starship outreach programme. Outside of music, Olly is a lover of the outdoors and can often be found generally 'adventuring' his weekends away.
